Social media is filled with a mishmash of posts that are positive & negative, real & fake, rumours & facts. Every day, the moment we wake up and face the world, we are inundated with choices of what to fill the mind with. For most, it is an automatic process, left to the hands of crafty algorithms that give you more of what you consume yesterday. The goal is to show you the things you want to see so you stay longer on the network.
The real world is not as different as we think. When your worldview is negative, your mind will automatically find negative proof to back you up while filtering out the positive news. Because you can only take in a certain amount of information, your brain focuses on the ones which you look out for. Negative begets negative. Everything starts to look gloomy, dark and hopeless. Even sales speakers can be negatively affected.
In a recent stress management workshop in Singapore, I emphasized that we do have a choice to see if the glass is half empty or half full. It is a choice that cannot be taken away from us. If our goal is to pull through the current situation with our spirit and passion for life intact, it falls on us to saturate our mind with positive thoughts instead of negative ones. The only way forward is for all us to band together and take a stand to spread more positivity in these difficult times.
