How Moving Forward Can Help Improve Your Health

There is an old lady who somehow always walks past the main glass door of my gym when I work out. She always takes this walk around the vicinity at around the same time as my scheduled gym sessions. 

However, her gait is far from normal. In fact, she is ferried to the area on a wheelchair by her maid. She then climbs out of the chair and with the help of a steel walker, starts her daily exercise. Each step takes about 5 seconds and they are just a small distance. It seems she may suffer from some kind of disease, perhaps Parkinson’s. 

Even though walking may seem like a normal thing to most of us, each step that this old lady takes requires tremendous effort. But she never stops, and she consistently does it every single day. She always takes a moment to stare into the gym, and we usually exchange a quick glance at each other before moving on with our own routine. 

Seeing this old lady greatly inspires me. Her tenacity despite her challenges fuels not only my workout, but also is a grave reminder to never give up, no matter how difficult things may seem. We may not be able to control what happens to us, but we can always do something positive about it. 

For those of you who are undergoing challenges in these unprecedented times, perhaps you can learn a lesson from this old lady. The future may seem bleak and uncertain, so it’s best to just take one step at a time. We must not let our condition hold us back. The most important thing is to always move forward, no matter how tough each step may seem.
