Too often, I see people who are imprisoned by their past. They define themselves through their past experience. If it empowers them, then it's fine and dandy. But most of the time, mental health speakers and trainers believe that the past only serve to weaken them with fear, anxiety and frustration.
What is our past really? It is a mere memory that is embedded in our mind. In digital terms, it is a mere electric circuit that is hardwired into the hard disk space that is our brain. Nothing more, nothing less.
Too often, because it is merely a memory of an event, our perspective of the past can be skewed. We sometimes warp past incidences and attach undue emotions on them. Such a course of action not only is a detraction of truth, but quite often affects our present decisions and robs us of our true potential.
As a keynote speaker on peak performance, I often say focus all your energy on the present moment. You are what you are NOW, and all the success that is possible comes only from what you can do right now. Respect the past, but put all your efforts in the present to shape the future that is waiting for you.
