How to Master Your Emotions and Be Your Best

I used to be really fiery. When I say "fiery", it's not always in the positive sense of the word. Well, there are times when my emotions were used to stir up passion or determination, but many times it served to only create pain, suffering or disappointment.

I did not understand at that time there was such a thing as "Emotional Discipline". I just based my decision on how I felt, which is a lot like going out to the open sea without checking the weather report. You never know when it will be smooth-sailing or sickeningly rocky. Emotional Intelligence or EQ was a skill I acquired only much later in life.

I realized over time that if you want to become the person you aspire to be and dictate your destiny, you will have to teach yourself to be disciplined about your emotions. In my stress management workshop and leadership workshop in Singapore, I tell participants to stop being the secretary of your sensations. Be the master of your emotions instead. In other words, take constant steps to improve your Emotional Intelligence of EQ.

It starts with a small realization. One step forward in the right direction. With the right consciousness or constant adjustments along the way, you will be walking the path to greatness in your work, business and life.
