An aspiring Singapore motivational speaker recently congratulated me on a keynote speech for a large group of people. He followed up the message with "But I can never do that...."
If you want to be great in anything - be it your speaking, work, business, profession, relationship, sport or fitness - you must first work on your self-image. It is one thing to be humble, but another to put yourself down and shut out the possibility of achieving the success you deserve.
As Asians, we are thought to project humility since a young age. We can still project humility and yet have a strong and powerful self-image. I call this "inner arrogance". Develop a self-image that reeks of optimism, confidence and success.... but keep it in your internal world. There is no need to shout it out to the world if you do not feel comfortable with it. But you MUST develop and embody it internally in order to succeed. I emphasize this strongly in the leadership workshop Malaysia and Singapore corporations engage me for.
Our self-image is constantly shifting with the tide. Choose the path of positivity and confidence and you are on the way to greater things.
