In recent times, we experienced the fight, politicking and blatant backstabbing in the race to be the next Prime Minister of Malaysia, the highest leadership position in the country. Being the PM of Malaysia brings immense power, surpassing that of the Yang Di PertuanAgong (or the King).
Hence, it's a good time to remind ourselves on what leadership really means. Position or title is often confused with leadership. But the truth is, a title does not make one a leader. One does not become a leader by simply hustling one's way to a powerful title.
Leadership speakers for business agree that true leadership happens when people allow you to influence their lives. It's when the leader's influence motivates people to work towards a shared vision that they feel passionate about. And this can only happen if the leader has a mindset and way of life that is congruent to the people. Not to himself, not to a group or party, but to the people.
As a professional keynote speaker, I strongly believe that influence come from making people believe by showing how much a leader cares not for himself, but the people. True leaders care about the contribution they are making.
As former president of the US Theodore Roosevelt rightfully said, "No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care".
