In the last Chinese New Year, I met up with some of the best motivational speakers Singapore have produced in recent years. A number of them commented that I have been "lucky" in the past year judging from the number of keynote speaking gigs I got. For the most part, I just smiled, thanked them and wished luck upon them too.

Deep inside though, I am saying, "It's got nothing to do with good luck. Nope, didn't put any golden pendants under my pillow. It's good old-fashioned hard work and a never give up attitude. That's what works".

It's the long hours researching good topics, reaching out to suitable parties, constant networking, focused social media usage, tweaking the keynotes and learning from mistakes as I go along. It doesn't just "flow in like the Yangtze river" suddenly. It's a slow burn that reaps rewards over time. If you want to be the best public speaker in the world, you will need to put in the requisite time.

I believe we create our own opportunities by putting in the requisite effort. Consistent and persistent effort never goes unrewarded. It's how the universe works. Whether you want to be one of the world top motivational speakers or excel in your own field, start working on yourself, and you will see wonders happen in times to come.
